Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (or ILL, for short) is a service whereby a patron of APLD can borrow books, videos, DVDs, or sound recordings that are owned by another library system.

APLD offers this service because it isn’t always possible to acquire an item for our permanent collection. Usually this is due to limited availability or an expected lack of usage. However, through ILL the library is able to provide you with a much greater amount of material.

To make an ILL request you will need:

  • A library membership in good standing
  • All pertinent information about the item you’re requesting
  • Your current contact information

  • If the material is loaned from an Indiana library the service is free. However, items loaned from out-of-state libraries usually have fees. If desired, you may specify that your requested material be obtained from "Indiana only" when you ask for your ILL.

Most items will require 10 business days to receive and the circulation period is set by the lending library. Renewing items is not always possible, but in most cases one renewal is allowed by the lender upon request.

To request materials through InterLibrary Loan, please call the library or inquire in person at a circulation desk.
